Animal Photography

Close photographs of our animal companions. This project will focus on authentic, even somewhat mundane pictures of daily life. It aims to let the personality of both person and pet shine through. By using this art form, I expect to capture different perspectives and moments through portraiture. Focusing on dogs and other domestic animals, the series captures personal moments; connecting with an animal brings about a certain joy in me, and I would like to share it with others. Using geometry (verticals, horizontals, framing, etc.) and playing with symmetry and negative space, I can tell a personal story through my photographs. Working in a familiar home setting, an outdoor space, or during walks in nature creates a freer and more varied scope of experiences and images that I can share with others. Natural window light will be interesting to use, as it brings out the expressions and mood of animals. Eye level perspective creates intimacy and closeness. I believe that photographing pets is a simple yet powerful way to bond with people. Many have an innate love for animals, and I am looking to create empathy, curiosity and warmth to those who view my photographs.

Nature Photography

Detail-rich images that reveal the subtle wonders of the natural world. This project centers on capturing the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world in and near the Swiss Alps. Dramatic landscapes, changes in seasons and small details overlooked in Lugano's environment will be present. Details big and small will tell a story of strength and perseverance, as nature often remains great, stable and unchanged in the face of human effort. Bigger details of nature, dawn light on uneven peaks, rivers and streams, and patterns on ice, rock and the sky formations, this project aims to transmit the peace and quiet one often feels in nature, as if they were there themselves. The goal is to move beyond typical landscape views toward an interpretation that is more abstract and creative. Light, shadows and focus of the camera lens will be used. Having grown up in Lugano, where incredible views are commonplace, there are a lot of subjects to focus on. I aim to share my love of nature and foster a more accepting view where nature is cherished and not destroyed.
